In tablet form, it’s taken first thing in the morning with a small amount of water and on an empty stomach, then food is avoided for 30 minutes to allow proper absorption. The most common side effects are nausea, mild stomach upset, diarrhea, and constipation, particularly in the first weeks and during dose changes. These typically improve as your body adjusts. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and (based on animal data) a theoretical risk of medullary thyroid tumors that has not been confirmed in humans. The oral formulation carries the same boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumor risk.
