The semaglutide safety profile is one of the most extensively studied of any weight-loss medication. The most common side effects are nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, and stomach discomfort. These are usually most pronounced in the first few weeks and during dose increases, then improve as your body adjusts. Most people find them manageable, especially with a slower titration if needed. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney problems related to dehydration, and (based on animal data) a theoretical risk of medullary thyroid tumors that has not been confirmed in humans. Semaglutide carries a boxed warning for this risk.
